What's New January 2007Learning. Oh my! Oh my!In December I moved into a new apartment. It took a while for the telephone to be set up, and longer for the internet. Ross gave me a new laptop for Christmas. 15 years ago I learned how to write with a mouse. Is this an archaic skill with a little square of glass on the laptop. I set up spider solitaire and played until my fingers learned the new tool. My learning theory for just about anything is that you learn faster if you have games to play. The little square window works better for Mahjong and worse for Collapse, two of my favorite free on line games. I usually score in the 5000 range with Collapse using a mouse, I just get to 500 with the lap top. So I'll probably need a mouse. I was totally defeated by a non ergonomic keyboard. So we got another ergonomic keyboard and hooked it up. Now I can type again. So I was all set to do the web on the desk top when a new version of Office came in and shot Front Page which I have used since 2000 to write this web. Microsoft's proposed products to replace Front Page have nothing to do with what I want a web program to do, not to mention ridiculous prices. I decided to not put Front Page in the laptop until we could use the programs together. I have so much new stuff around that relaxing without the book of instructions for anything from the TV to the microwave is dangerous . I have also noticed that I have chosen not to hear too much, hearing aids don't get put in. Isn't it amazing how childlike we can be, simply choosing not to hear because it is an extra complication. However I probably will blow the speakers for the TV as the volume is cranked up to the top. tut, tut, tut! My piano which has digiscore, a Roland HP 107 is wonderful. Three months of no piano really dropped my stamina. I have to be careful to build up skills again and strength, otherwise sore fingers, wrists and arms might happen. A belated Happy New Year to everyone. PAM Candlish 19 January 2007 |
